hay castle artist’s talk

By

As part of Vivat Matriarchia’s exhibition at Hay Castle, Hay-on-Wye, was the opportunity to talk about the project at one of their monthly artist’s talks in September. The audience learnt about the origins of the project, inspired by the imagined matriarchies of Christine de Pisan’s ‘The Book of the City of Ladies’ (1405CE) and Margaret Cavendish’s ´The Blazing World’ (1665CE). The 17th century women featured in ´Perihelia’ were covered as well as the research for their imagined portraits created for the surface pattern decals. The processes used to create the artefacts were discussed and the final artefacts illustrated. The Q&A following the talk was a great way to gather audience engagement and interest in the project and the value of future talking opportunities. The evening ended with Hay Castle’s invitation for a larger exhibition in their 2027 programming.
