Steph Avery-Reynolds has worked for over twenty years in arts facilitation as a freelance community artist in Kent, England. Her work includes public murals and sculpture, outreach workshops in schools and community centres. She was commissioned by Canterbury Festival to devise and deliver workshops county-wide, and has been artist-in-residence for several Kent schools. Steph was born in Lewisham, London and was initially a hairdresser at DMop in Soho, before gaining a BA Hons degree in filmmaking at LCP. She worked for eleven years in the UK feature film industry in production and script development before relocating to Kent, studying Fine Art BTech and developing her community arts profile.
Since moving to Powys, Wales in 2023, Steph has concentrated solely on her personal art practice and project research. Her Masters degree in Contemporary Crafts at Hereford College of Arts completes in December 2025.
In July to September 2025, Steph’s Perihelia Masters project was exhibited at Hay Castle, Hay-on-Wye, Powys. To accompany the exhibition, Steph held family workshops and an Artist Talk in their Clore Learning Centre. She has been asked to return in 2027 and exhibit as part of their Richard Booth’s 50 Years of Independence.
She considers Vivat Matriarchia a long term project, having countless overlooked women of history to discover and commemorate.
